Lenawee Now was recently recognized by the Mid-America Economic Development Council (MAEDC) for its marketing efforts. The Lenawee County economic development organization won MAEDC’s Best Marketing Program, Large Community Division award for a video the organization created explaining the purpose of economic development. The video is about a young girl who opens a front-yard lemonade stand and grows it into a brick-and-mortar business as she gets older, all with the help of an economic development organization.

“One of the biggest challenges we’ve always faced is that members of our community don’t understand what we do,” said Jim Van Doren, Executive Director of Lenawee Now. “This video explains what we do through the metaphor of a child’s lemonade stand, which is a simple and universally understood concept.”

The award was presented as part of MAEDC’s annual Economic Development awards presentation during its Virtual Best Practices Conference, held on May 12-13. The award was presented for an overall marketing program to market a community, county, state, or region to a prospect. “This award is meaningful to us not only because of the results we’ve seen it produce in our community, but because it can be easily replicated by other economic developers,” said Van Doren. “We expect it will have a far-reaching impact, and that will provide even further benefit to Lenawee County.”
