Comstar Building

International Tier 1 Supplier to Ford Motor Company Establishes North American Headquarters in Tecumseh, Michigan

The morning of Friday, April 26 was an important one in Tecumseh. It probably slipped by many people, but if you were at the new Comstar building, you knew what a big deal it was: the first shipment of Ford truck starters from its first North American facility.

Comstar, based in India, is a leading multinational company that has most recently opened a new facility in Tecumseh where it will manufacture starter motors for Ford Motor’s diesel truck line.

“We extend a warm welcome to our friends at Comstar Automotive, who have selected Tecumseh as their new North American Headquarters, said City of Tecumseh Mayor, Dick Johnson. “Businesses such as Comstar are an example of how innovative minds and technology can join together to do great things and assure a positive future for this business and the community at large. Their partnership with Ford Motor Company creates an additional foundation for success within the automotive industry, which has long been an integral part of the Michigan economy. We are honored to be part of this business partnership and wish Comstar Automotive a successful future and much prosperity.”

Choosing Tecumseh was an alignment of the business development stars: Comstar was looking to establish a footprint in the U.S. and Ford wanted its supplier to stay in the region. Tecumseh happened to have a vacant building that matched the needs of both parties and thanks to the suggestion of Comstar consultant Timothy Brunetz, it was considered and ultimately selected.

“The business was sourced late last year with tight program timing,” said President and CEO, Sat Mohan Gupta. “In response, Comstar put its best team in place to launch the facility in record time. Comstar is a strategic partner to Ford and will do whatever it takes to make Ford successful.” He was extremely happy with the enthusiasm of City Council Officials in welcoming Comstar to the community and assured them Comstar is working toward bringing more business to the plant, thereby enhancing opportunities for the community.

“We took possession of the building on the first of March and had a lot of prep to do in a short time frame. Everyone in city management and the community were wonderfully supportive of us meeting our launch goals,” said Brunetz. He looks forward to building business relationships with local service providers.

At Lenawee Now, we think the economic tide in Lenawee is turning. Economically speaking, it is a banner day when a Tier-1 auto supplier chooses your community. The fact that this facility is also Comstar’s North American Headquarters is icing on the cake. While the operation is modest right now, the potential for growth is incredible. We see great things in Comstar’s and Lenawee County’s future together.
