Adrian Maple Wheelers keeping rolling in Lenawee County

AR-160718963Thanks to social media — and Scott Elliott — the Adrian Maple Wheelers are about to embark on a fourth decade of existence. At least that’s what everyone thinks. No one seems to know for sure when, or how, the bicycling group got started, just that it began back between 1977 and 1979. Now it is about to turn 40, or maybe just 38, all thanks to Elliott, an assistant professor of religion and philosophy at Adrian College. Elliott gets credit for reviving the flagging group when it was on its last legs — or wheels, as it were — when he came to Adrian in the early 2000s. By then the membership had dipped to an all-time low.Via The Daily Telegram

GreenStone marks 100 years serving farmers

AR-160719127One hundred years ago, on July 17, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Farm Loan Act into law, paving the way for farmers to have better access to credit. That milestone event led to the creation of what is today known as GreenStone Farm Credit Services, which uses Wilson’s signing of the bill into law as the basis for marking 2016 as its centennial year.
