Goals of the LISD TECH Center are centered around preparing their students for future success in the workplace and college. The program offers several hands-on learning experiences to give their students the opportunity to showcase skills in and out of the classroom.

Recently, students participated in this year’s SkillsUSA Regional Leadership Competition. The event was hosted at multiple locations around the county in early February and featured students from across Lenawee County. The competition highlighted nine industries including Welding, Building Trades, Residential Construction, Culinary Arts, Auto Services Technology, Computer Information Systems, Machining & CAM, Auto Collision Repair, and Video and Audio Production.

The LISD TECH Center had many successes at this year’s regional competition. Approximately 60 students from the TECH Center participated in this year’s regional and district competitions. Of these, 38 have qualified to attend the State conference in Grand Rapids, MI this April. Major LISD TECH Center highlights include podium sweeps in both the Automotive Refinishing and Collision Repair categories.  First through fourth place finishes were earned by TECH Center students in Pin Design and T-Shirt Design. The Advertising Design category also reflected notable TECH Center successes. Students represented 10 high schools across Lenawee County including Addision, Adrian, Britton Deerfield, Hudson, Madison, Morenci, Onsted, Sand Creek, and Tecumseh.

Significant accomplishments at skilled trades competitions represent a prepared future workforce. Skills being taught are translating beyond the classroom to meet industry demands in the real world. SkillsUSA was not only a win for the LISD TECH Center, but also for our county. Knowing our students are already soaring above expectations strengthens belief in a brighter Lenawee tomorrow.
