Franchise owner, Damian Berry, left his position with the Michigan Department of Corrections in January. A lifelong lover of fitness, the Grass Lake resident has spent a lot of his free time at the Planet Fitness in Jackson. After some serious deliberation with friends and family he contacted Planet Fitness about potentially opening his own franchise. Once he was accepted, he was then presented with a list of cities that included locations in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.

With many options on the table, Damian decided to open his business in Adrian, Michigan, the county seat of Lenawee County. With over 1,500 registered members before opening, it’s clear that he has made the right decision.

After seventeen years with the State, Damian left his position and celebrated the conclusion of a long, successful career. He made the brave decision to leave a stable job, and open his very own franchise; a decision of that magnitude never comes easy, but by taking that risk, he is now his own boss. This brave decision is paying off exponentially both financially and emotionally. He has now opened a new chapter in his life as a businessman and entrepreneur.

Damian based his decision to open a franchise in Lenawee County on several factors.

The business is located a short drive from either Jackson or Ann Arbor. Lenawee County has also seen an increase in its own population in every census since 1920, now standing at nearly 100,000, so Damian knew he would have no trouble finding members. He is elated at the success he has had so far, and is even considering franchising more businesses in the future.

The buzz around town for this new business has been palpable. A flurry of businesses bringing franchises and original companies to Lenawee in 2015 has brought a new level of enthusiasm to the community. It is an exciting time to be a resident or business owner in Lenawee County. This is Lenawee Now.
