Lenawee Community Foundation Announces Health & Human Services Grants Available

The Lenawee Community Foundation enhances the quality of life in our community through building endowments, addressing community challenges and opportunities, and making grants to not-for-profit organizations. By supporting charitable organizations in a variety of areas, the foundation helps to build a stronger, healthier community.

Grant requests are now being accepted for programs or projects of health and human service agencies. Applications are due August 1, 2014 by 12:00 noon. To be eligible to receive grants from the Lenawee Community Foundation, organizations must be not-for-profit and provide direct service to residents of Lenawee County.

The primary resource for the Lenawee Community Foundation’s health and human service grant programs is the V.C. and Velma Knight Memorial Fund. Although Velma passed away in 1980, and V.C. in 2005, they continue to help others in their community. In fact, grant distributions from the V.C. and Velma Knight Fund total $164,000 over the past five years and have assisted thousands of Lenawee residents with their basic needs. Their dedication to help their fellow human beings will continue forever, because of the legacy they left.

Grant requests for funding will be reviewed by Foundation staff and the Health and Human Service Grants Committee prior to submission to the Board of Directors for approval. In order to make the best use of available funding, the Lenawee Community Foundation will give highest consideration to projects or programs that:

  • Provide direct services to individuals and families, addressing their basic needs
  • Leverage resources through funding partnerships, matching grants, or sharing of other resources
  • Can be sustained without continued funding from the Community Foundation
  • Encourage collaboration and cooperation among charities, and do not duplicate existing services
  • Encourage volunteerism, civic, or community involvement

Capital projects, and indirect services or programs will not receive funding consideration.
Applicants must contact the Lenawee Community Foundation, prior to submitting a request for funding, at 517-423-1729 or ptrentman@ubat.com.
